The advantages of wood
Public benches, seats, picnic tables, and planters at Procity are available in wood versions. There are several reasons why choosing wooden urban furniture can be beneficial:,
AESTHETICS
Wood adds a warm and natural touch to the urban environment. Its natural appearance can help create a more welcoming and pleasant setting for residents and visitors of the city.
DURABILITY
Wood is a durable material if properly maintained with the right treatments and finishes; urban furniture made of wood can withstand the elements and wear caused by frequent use.
ECOLOGY
Wood is a renewable and biodegradable material, making it an eco-friendly choice for urban furniture. By using wood from certified or responsibly managed sources, we can contribute to the preservation of forests and reduce our environmental footprint.
COMFORT
Wood tends to be more comfortable than some other materials when used for benches or seating. It can also be more pleasant to the touch, especially in hot or cold weather, compared to metal surfaces.
URBAN HEAT REDUCTION
Wood tends to absorb less heat than some other materials, such as metal or concrete, which can help reduce the urban heat island effect in urban areas.
Wood is a living material, so our wooden furniture will evolve throughout its life. To maintain protection and ensure proper aging of your wood slats, we recommend annual maintenance. Please refer to our maintenance tips for wooden furniture here.
The different types of wood for PROCITY® urban furniture
In order to offer a wide variety of products and meet the diverse needs of businesses and communities (economic choice, eco-responsible options, or aesthetics and durability), we work with three types of wood:
-PEFC-certified oak, a noble wood species sourced from French forests and 100% recyclable.
-Exotic wood.
-Softwoods
PEFC Label - PROCITY® is committed to sustainable forest management
PEFC integrates forests into sustainable development through management rules aimed at preserving forests for the future while allowing for wood production. The PEFC label on PROCITY® urban furniture guarantees that the product comes from responsible sources and that through your purchase, you contribute to the sustainable management of forests.
At PROCITY®, products from the Silaos line (benches, seats, picnic tables, waste bins) are made from PEFC-certified oak.
Two types of finish: paint or stain
All our wood slats are air-dried and then undergo a water-based impregnation treatment to protect and strengthen the wood.
We then apply either a layer of stain or a layer of lacquered paint, both of which are resistant to weather conditions and UV rays. The quality of the finish of the paints/stains on wood components and their UV resistance is guaranteed for one year (raw wood components are not guaranteed).
Stained wood
Lacquered wood
The advantages of compact laminate
Compact laminate is a very robust material made from several layers of resin-impregnated paper, pressed together at high temperature. It is highly resistant to impacts, scratches, moisture, and is easy to clean.
DURABILITY
Due to its robustness, compact laminate is extremely durable and capable of withstanding heavy use, which is essential for urban furniture that is often subjected to continuous and sometimes abusive usage.
EASY OF MAINTENANCE
Compact laminate is easy to clean and does not require regular treatments.
RESISTANCE
Compact laminate is extremely resistant to impacts, wear, scratches, and abrasion. This makes it ideal for environments subjected to intense usage conditions, such as public spaces.
ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY
Some compact laminates are made from recycled or certified materials, which can meet the sustainability and environmental responsibility requirements often required in urban furniture projects.
